Words – Your Power

What we speak is very well connected to what we think and what we do. Our mouth, mind & body are very well connected. By changing the words we use we can very well change our act and/or our thoughts. The same is true for our thoughts and actions. Words are the programs we use to run our mind and body. Hence it is very important to use the correct and positive words and equally important to avoid negative words. This posting aims to throw some light on the power of words and lets you know how you can change/improve your life situation by using correct words.

            The human brain, that incredibly powerful personal computer control center that each of us has, is    capable of doing for you anything reasonable that you’d like it to do. But you have to know how to treat it. If you treat it just right, and carefully give it the right directions, it will do the right thing-it will work for you in the right way. But if you give your mental computer the wrong directions it will act on those wrong directions; it will continue to respond to the negative programming that you and the rest of the world have been giving it without even being aware of it.
We communicate through:
               – body language
               – tonality/attitude
               – words.
        Words used, shapes the way you think, you act. Words are the dresses of your thoughts.
        The body posture, the way you think, the way you act are all connected to the way you ‘say’ the words you use. It is not what you say but how you say forms the impression.
How people evaluate you & vice-versa:
            •Non-verbal, actions, body language, postures, gestures(before you open your mouth.)
            •Once you open your mouth:
                    – Tonality: it reveals your attitude.
                    – Specific word choice.
            •We all size(evaluate) each other up. It is human nature.
Every phrase you use ….
   •Shapes your image.
           •Guides co-operation.
           •Programs your brain.
          Language of success: use these words as frequently as possible.
           •Positively: positively I am going to improve my financial situation.
           •Absolutely: I am absolutely confident about my preparation for exams.
           •Guaranteed: I am guaranteed to improve my relationship.
           •Certainly: Certainly I am the best.
           •Obviously: Obviously I have  great sense of humour.
           •Definitely: Definitely I can reach my goal.
          
Words to avoid:
  • But- negates any words that are stated before it. For example if you say, ” you communicate       well, but your tonality needs to improve”. Instead you can say, ” you communicate well and certainly you can work on your tonality.”
  •   Try – presupposes failure.
  •   If – presupposes that you may not.
  •   Might – it does nothing definite. It leaves options for your listener.
  •   Would have- past tense that draws attention to things that didn’t act.
  •   Should have- past tense that draws attention to things that didn’t act. It implies guilt.
  •   Could have- past tense that draws attention to things that didn’t act. Person tries to take credit as if it did   happen.
  •   Can’t/Don’t- These words force the listener to focus on exactly what don’t they want. This is a classic mistake that parents and coaches make.

         Every word contains the essence of a particular life experience or desired result. “Switchwords” are one word affirmations. Using them is like turning on an electric lamp with a switch. The desired result invariably appears. They can be used in a variety of creative ways to positively shape our reality. Declare, chant, affirm, sing, say them just once, or repeat them mantra style several times and watch how effortlessly reality is shaped by your intentions.

The essence of a switchword feels like a laser focusing our thought on the desired energy. These switchwords were discovered by James T. Mangan in 1963 (and exposed in his book, The Secret of Perfect Living) and have been proven in the lives of many people. They offer a real means to mastering our health and our happiness.
Here are a few examples of these main switchwords and their creative influence:
  • To find a lost item: OBTAIN.
  • To solve a problem: OBTAIN
  • To stay young: LEARN
  • To wipe out a negative thought: CANCEL
  • To dispel fear: BLUFF
  • To regain energy: MOVE
  • To improve interpersonal relationships: SWEET and WITH
  • To be healthy: BE
  • To beat the blues: UP
  • To stick to a resolution: DONE
  • To stop regrets: THANKS
  • The Master Switchword, the one which activates the whole of our mental machinery is the word TOGETHER.
  • To switch your request over to your subconscious, you now only need to use the Master word “TOGETHER” before the appropriate switchword. For example, the person who wishes to find a lost item may repeat several times: “Together-Obtain”.

CHALLENGES

The word ‘Challenge’ is a very interesting word. Challenges bring the best out of anyone who face them bravely.All of us face both minor and major challenges in our lives. How we deal with those life challenges determines how we experience life – as a struggle to survive or as an
ongoing adventure in growth and fulfillment.

The word ‘Challenge’ has a positive connotation. The word ‘ Problem’ on the contrary has a negative connotation. If you call your friend over phone and tell him that you have a problem that might make him defensive.It might not let him come forward freely to listen to you further. The word ‘Issue’ is neutral. If you tell your friend that you have an issue he will be neutral while listening to you. Similarly, if you use the word ‘ Challenge’ your friend might even express his willingness to participate and join hands with you to meet the challenges. Still better, if you can use the word ‘Opportunity’. If you tell your friend that you have an opportunity, he will definitely be happy to listen you. Same situation- how you view and what word you use to convey the situation makes all the difference.

What if we could learn to see life’s challenges in a whole new light? What if we could learn to see  them as highly beneficial experiences, adventures in learning, or even blessing in disguise? Wouldn’t that be a welcome shift in perception?

The truth is, with the right mental attitude we can completely reframe the way we experience challenges. And asking the right questions is one of the most effective ways to do that. With a little practice we can come to view challenges as some of our most valuable life experiences.

All leaders have the courage to challenge the status quo. This has resulted in positive changes in the world we live. Have you ever noticed that every challenge also contains a blessings in disguise? If not, perhaps you haven’t been looking closely enough! Granted, life’s challenges usually seem like inconveniences when they interrupt our schedules, or get in the way of something we want to do. Isn’t that part of the reason we call them challenges?

Questions you can ask yourself when facing challenges:

1. What can I learn from this?
2. What knowledge, skills & abilities I need to face them?
3. How can I improve my knowledge,abilities & skills?
4. Do I have right attitude to get the best out of every challenge I face?
5. What behavioral flexibilities it will bring to me?
6. What and How I can make the best out of these challenges?

When it comes to facing the challenges and learning from them, our best teachers are children. We can learn a lot from children as to how they face challenges and convert them easily into a learning tool. For children, challenges are fun. They want more of them. This is the secret of their growth, success & happiness.

The only thing that is permanent in our life is ‘Change’. Great challenges change our negative beliefs and enables us  to reach our full potential. Great challenges make us strong and get rid of our dysfunctional fears.

Our environment is always benevolent and keeps providing us a lot of challenges every moment to bring the best of ourselves. I define ‘LUCK’ as the meeting point of the opportunities & challenges passing by and our alertness. Opportunities & Challenges are always present in our life. It is our alertness makes us either Lucky or otherwise. The short cut to success is grabbing the challenges coming in your way with both hands. Now I know what would be your attitude  when you face your next challenge. Go & Grab them with full courage and conviction and make success & happiness as your friends.

KNOWLEDGE

It is said that KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

What is knowledge?
What is the difference between knowledge & information?
what is the difference between knowledge & wisdom?
what is the difference between knowledge & awareness?

The Dictionary meaning of knowledge :
– awareness or familiarity gained by experience
– a person’s range of information
– a theoretical or practical understanding of a subject, language, etc.

Knowledge is the sum of what is known. For any knowledge to take place, 3 factors are required:

1. The object to be known.
2. The knower of the object(the subject).
3. The means of knowing it.

The most common means of knowledge are:

a) Direct perception: It is the knowledge gained through the 5 sense organs(eyes, ears,nose, tongue & skin) of perception.
b)Inference: Based on what we perceive AND what we already know, we infer  a thing. On seeing some smoke, we can infer that there must be fire.
c) we gain knowledge by reading or hearing from people who have directly experienced a thing or heard about it.

The difference between knowledge & information : Knowledge is information internalized or personalized.
The difference between knowledge & wisdom: Wisdom is application of knowledge for the common good of all.
The difference between knowledge & awareness: Awareness is eternal, changeless truth; Knowledge can change and need not be eternal. When the knowledge becomes eternal & changeless it is known as awareness. You need awareness to gain knowledge and awareness is the source of all knowledge.

There are 4 types of person with respect to KNOWLEDGE:
1.He who knows not and knows not he knows not: He is a fool-Shun him.
2.He who knows not and knows he knows not: He is simple-Teach him.
3.He who knows and knows not he knows: He is asleep-Wake him.
4. He who knows and knows he knows: He is wise – Follow him.

Of all the knowledge the highest knowledge is SELF-KNOWLEDGE . As regards Self-Knowledge, the object to be known is the Self and the knower is also the Self. What is the means of gaining it? The Self is not available for direct perception, therefore, it cannot be inferred or spoken of. Then how is Self-Knowledge possible? But the beauty is Self-Knowledge ( I AM THAT I AM) is inherent, changeless & ever existent.
